Witness list

Another observer of the case, Fireman Sam  has been good enough to send me this excellent document which list all of the witnesses who have appeared and the date of their appearance.

I've placed it here for reference and we will do our best to keep it updated as the case goes on.

This is great. It makes it easy to refer back to previous testimony. Thanks to Fireman Sam.

I asked this on a previous thread, but got no reply so will try again.

Does anyone have a note of the number of prosecution witnesses whose evidence in this trial differed from their evidence in the defamation case and/or their police statements?

It seemed to me to be a lot, but I didn't make notes and even with Fireman Sam's excellent document it would take too long to try to work it out now.

Hoping someone else made notes?

Complicated point. My reading of the matter is that the defence consider all the Crown witnesses who gave evidence in the libel trial have, to one degree or another, altered their evidence. In fact even in this trial some Crown witnesses where first examined by Scott and then re-examined by Sheridan and gave different versions. So there are 3 or 4 different versions in some cases. Would not the main isue therefore be what key winesses changed their evidence and about what key matters? For example Khan and Trolle are key witnesses. The defence highlighted their changing evidence from the libel trial, to the pre trial statements to the testimony in this trial about crucial matters such as the dates of the sex sessions, the NOTW payments and NOTW offers of payments. A central plank of the defence case is that if you do not believe Khan, Trolle and McGuire (who is yet to appear) then the whole Crown case falls away. Tommy and McBride have made charges in cross that [edited] The reports of their testimony on all media, and the McBride cross in particular, still reverberate. As for the third woman it emerged from the police that McGuire is not believed by the police. That would be a good and possible reason why Prentice did not call her. (Despite this the NOTW still think she is telling the truth!) If there was no sex with these 3 women, in Cupids (Salford) or the sex house in Wigan then logically there can be no confessions to sex clubs etc. [edited] . We may see Crown witnesses appear as defence witnesses or not as the case may be - that has been suggested by the defence in McGuires case at least. I think that is the main reason the Crown needed to cut short its case - although I note some here think Pentice did a great job and didn't need to prove anything more so could therefore cut short his case! So I suggest that if someone is starting a list of changing evidence Trolle and Khan is the place to start.

Peter, I've had to take out a couple of parts of that, could you please avoid making statements along those lines?

Thank

J

Thanks to Fireman Sam for this really handy index to the witnesses in this trial. It has made following the trial a lot easier.

This leads me to ask; do the members of the jury have access to any reference material like this - a list of witnesses; a transcript of evidence given. Are any of them taking notes? How on earth do they follow 36 days(so far) of testimony?

I wonder if any have found this blog.

Hello Paw, the jury do take notes and during their consideration of a verdict will be able to ask the judge to review any material that is relevant.

The jury are also under instructions from Lord Bracadale not to conduct their own research, especially on the internet, so that they can concentrate only the on facts presented to them in court.

Still cant understand why TS brother in law has not been called to testify in either trial!! Why doesn't Tommy doesn't call him to testify that he never went to cupids with him, Katrine Trolle, Anvar Khan and Gary Clark and that Katrine Trolle was never in his house. Seems strange to me. Could it be he doesn't want to commit perjury in court?

@Danny G - the defence case is only 1 day in, so there is still time for many witnesses to be called.

Anonymous 11.03 pm. Thanks for your reply and comments. You give a concise and interesting summary of some good points in the Crown case.

Charlie McCarthy isn't even an SSP member, let alone 'National Treasurer'

Thanks for that anon, it seems we have transposed the entries for Charlie McCarthy and Mr McVicar. We will fix that now.

all the best

Can we have a full list of who was on the crowns list of witnesses! There case has finished so it wouldn't prejudice the case.

Sorry anon, that list is confidential so even if we had it we could not publish it.
